DBG

Our next stop in Phoenix was the Desert Botanical Garden (DBG).  It is also on the eastern edge of the city but quite a bit south of the MIM. We got there in the late afternoon as the day was beginning to cool down.  The garden has several different loops that show different aspects of desert plant life.

The Desert Wildflower Loop Trail was really nice.  There were not massive amounts of blooms, but what there were smelled wonderful.

We enjoyed the Desert Discovery Loop Trail with it's beautiful garden structures. Throughout this loop, there were also many sculptures of different animals (not necessarily indigenous to the desert) created by Cracking Art.  The art installation is called Wild Rising.  And yes, the sculptures are plastic.

Our favorite exhibit was the Butterfly Pavilion.  We got there about 5 minutes before it closed; but the gal was nice enough to let several of us stay and take photos.

On our way out, we noticed the Chihuly glass art.  Being the snob that I am, I thought the plastic sculptures detracted from the beauty of the glass.  What do you think?

After having tackled two museums in one day, we were very hungry.  It took us two tries, but we finally found a great smokehouse for some really good BBQ.  Lucille's Smokehouse is located in the Tempe Marketplace.

After dinner, two very tired tourists drove 90 minutes back to their quiet camp in Saddle Mountain.

We have two galleries set up for this post.  One for the butterflies, and one for everything else.  Hope you enjoy them.

I agree with you about the plastic sculptures...seems cheesy. If you’re a snob then I’m a snob and nothing wrong with that! Wish I could smell those flowers. 😄
