We got rained on today. That can only mean one thing...
We're back in Oregon. Our expedition is almost over. In some ways, it feels like we just started our journey. In other ways, it feels like we've been gone forever.
We arrived at a state park just outside of John Day. We can see the John Day River out our back window. Plus snow-capped mountains.
If you ever get the chance to drive Highway 26 between Redmond and Ontario, take it. The drive is longer than taking I-84, but it's really nice. We did the drive in reverse today coming from Ontario. We drove through high desert, climbed to several summits, and then suddenly, we were in snowy forestland. Dropping down into the John Day valley was gorgeous today--even with the rain clouds.
We got set up in record time, and H headed out with camera in hand. A little while later, he returned for his big lens because he spotted what he thought was an Osprey nest. He waited and waited for the big bird to show itself. When it finally did, it wasn't an osprey at all. He was very disappointed to find it was a goose of some kind. Oh well. Goose--1, Photographer--0. It happens sometimes.
But H's river pictures are very nice. Check them out in his Gallery.
We have one more place to check out; then we're headed home and the trip will be over. We're trying not to think about it.
