Before
we checked in to our last destination, we took a side trip to the Painted
Hills. Believe it or not, we wanted to
see it under a cloudy sky to see if the colors looked more vibrant than they do
under a sunny sky.
The
Hills are just off Highway 26 about three miles west of Mitchell, OR. We’ve been here a couple of times
before. Both times during the summer on
sunny days. The last time was 2 ½ years
ago with my brother and sister-in-law, Les and Susan.
The hills
were gorgeous today. This is the first
time we’ve been here in the spring. Everything
was so much greener.
We
almost had the place to ourselves. The
first thing I noticed when we got out of the truck was the sound of birds. It was wonderful! Kind of soothing for the soul.
We also
saw a pretty big lake behind the Painted Cove.
We don’t remember that from the last visit. Maybe it was there, but not as
prominent. It was full of very noisy
geese. So much for the soothing sound of
birds.
This was
a great side trip. Spring is a good time
to come to the Painted Hills. The colors were fantastic and the whole
experience was very peaceful. You can see H's photos in his Gallery.
We
still had two hours of driving ahead of us, so it was time to push on….
